142-144 Frankston Dandenong Road
Industrial Storage Facility Extension
Project Overview
At Steradian ESD Consultants, we recently completed a sustainable and efficient design for the extension of an industrial storage facility located at 142-144 Frankston Dandenong Road. This project required our expertise in Green Travel Planning and the development of a Sustainable Management Plan to meet the stringent requirements for council approval under the Built Environment Sustainability Scorecard (BESS) framework. Our challenge was to ensure compliance while tailoring the design to meet the specific operational needs of the facility.
Given the low staffing levels in the storage facility, daylight access was intentionally excluded from the design. Instead, motion-sensor lighting was implemented, ensuring lights are activated only when necessary. This approach minimized energy consumption and aligned with energy efficiency principles, reducing waste while meeting the building’s functional requirements. To further enhance energy performance and meet compliance standards, we conducted detailed façade glazing calculations as part of our energy efficiency strategy.
Water management was another critical component of the project. By developing a MUSICX model, we ensured effective water usage and compliance with council requirements for stormwater quality. Combined, these strategies delivered a design that balanced practicality with sustainability, meeting the objectives of the Sustainable Management Plan and Green Travel Plan.
By addressing these challenges, we successfully achieved council approval and delivered a project that balances sustainability with functionality.
