Services

SDA/SMP Reporting

The SDA/SMP Reporting process is made up of:

  • Sustainable Design Assessments (SDA) and;
  • Sustainable Management Plans (SMP) as requested by the council.

These assessments align with council Environmental Sustainable Development (ESD) policies, utilising the Built Environment Sustainability Scorecard (BESS).

Following completion, the focus shifts to implementing and integrating proposed measures with other development plans to ensure alignment with sustainability goals.

NatHERs Modelling

NatHERs Modelling involves the engagement of Accredited Energy Raters who specialise in assessing and modeling the energy efficiency of building designs.

These experts focus on various aspects, including the design of glazing factors and window builds, as well as conducting building fabric analysis.

The ultimate goal is to achieve 6 and 7-star design compliance for your construction project, ensuring that it meets high standards of energy efficiency as per the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERs). This process helps optimise the building’s performance in terms of energy usage and sustainability.

WSUD

Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) is a comprehensive approach to urban planning that emphasises sustainable water management strategies. The implementation of WSUD involves incorporating various elements such as rainwater tanks, raingardens, buffer strips, and filtration devices into the urban landscape.

These features are designed to effectively manage stormwater, promoting responsible water usage and reducing the impact of urban development on the local water system.

Additionally, WSUD emphasises proper stormwater management practices during the construction phase, ensuring that potential environmental impacts are minimised.
Overall, WSUD contributes to the creation of more resilient and environmentally friendly urban spaces by integrating water-sensitive principles into the design and development process.

WMP Reports

Waste Management Plan Reports, play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with various guidelines and standards. These include adherence to:
  • Local Government Authority (LGA) guidelines,
  • Waste Management and Recycling in Multi-Unit Developments.
  • AS 4123.1 and AS 4123.2,
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Noise Control Guidelines

To enhance the efficiency of waste management, the integration of specialist waste management strategies, particularly for medical and hazardous waste, is a key consideration in the planning and implementation of Waste Management Plans.

This comprehensive approach ensures that waste management processes not only meet regulatory requirements but also address the specific challenges posed by diverse waste streams.

FAQs

Environmentally sustainable design, or ESD, focuses on creating structures and systems that minimise negative environmental impacts while promoting efficiency, resource conservation, and long-term sustainability. It is crucial to address environmental challenges, reduce carbon footprints, and ensure a healthier planet for future generations.

To incorporate sustainability, start by conducting a thorough environmental impact assessment. Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption, minimize waste, and choose eco-friendly materials. Implementing renewable energy sources, optimizing water usage, and considering the life cycle of products are additional steps to ensure a comprehensive and sustainable approach.

Embracing environmentally sustainable design practices can enhance your project or business by reducing operating costs, improving energy efficiency, and fostering a positive corporate image. Sustainable design also helps meet regulatory requirements, attracts environmentally conscious clients, and contributes to a healthier and more resilient community.

Stay informed by subscribing to industry publications, attending conferences, and participating in professional networks focused on sustainability and design. Follow reputable organisations, research institutions, and online platforms dedicated to sustainable practices. Continuous learning and engagement with the broader sustainability community will help you stay current on the latest trends, technologies, and innovations in environmentally sustainable design.

Numerous certifications and standards are in place to validate environmentally sustainable design practices. Notable examples include BESS, BASIX, Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERs), and Green Star. It’s advisable to ensure that your ESD consultant holds an Australian university engineering degree for added expertise. These certifications offer a recognised framework for assessing and certifying the sustainability performance of buildings and projects.
